The founders of the company are seasoned entrepreneurs who established Kools Chicken 'n' Fries in 1992, a company that later merged with a retail group including Gloria Jeans and Donut King after it had expanded into 450+ outlets.〔 In 2001, Mike and Gayle Koolen founded the Essential Brands Group that started with sales of coffee machines into the small office environment and eventually expanded throughout the region, specifically Australasia with the supply of European-sourced coffee machines and locally roasted coffee beans and products through its associated brands: I Luv Coffee, Roasters' Emporium Coffee, I Luv Slush and I Luv Frozee and is known for its brands Espresso Essential and Essential Slush.〔〔〔 The company predominantly sells coffee beans from their commercial roasting facility located in Queensland.〔〔〔〔
